Some people get scared cooking for a crowd, but if you do something easy like this you’ll be spending more time visiting and less time in the kitchen. I think you could use French Bread cut into thicker slices if you can’t find Texas Toast on the bread isle. All Texas Toast is, is a thicker slice of bread. You could even use regular bread, but I would make three layers instead of 2.
Overall the dish has a good sweetness to it, so we didn’t use any extra syrup. Also I noticed if you flip the slices upside down and then reheat the sugar on the bottom melts better and isn’t all grainy on any leftovers you eat the next day.
French Toast Casserole
(Adapted from Rach’s Blog)
1/2 cup melted butter (1 stick)
1 cup brown sugar
1 loaf Texas toast
1 1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Powdered sugar for sprinkling
Melt butter in microwave & add brown sugar....stir till mixed.
Pour butter/sugar mix into bottom of 9 x 13 pan....spread around
Beat eggs, milk, & vanilla
Lay single layer of Texas Toast in pan
Spoon 1/2 of egg mixture on bread layer
Add 2nd layer of Texas Toast
Spoon on remaining egg mixture
Cover & chill in fridge overnight
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes
Sprinkle with powdered sugar (I sprinkled it on before I baked it)
Serve with warm maple syrup (I don't do the syrup part)
