Tortilla Meat Roll Up

IMG_7138 (800x600)

Today is my dad’s birthday!! So I bring you a dish he has created himself. If you don’t know who my dad is you’ll want to tune into the Sportsman channel to a show called Sporting Chef his name is Buddy Toepfer. Occasionally you’ll see my kitchen used and once in a while my son is on the show.

2 years ago my son and I made this cake to celebrate with him. I’m a little bummed I never got to do a blog post on the cake so I’ll share it now on this post! I used crushed Oreo cookies to make the facial hair, even though he’s no longer dark hair!

My dad has the gifted talent of coming up with a ton of recipes. Probably way more than I could ever do in my lifetime. Today’s recipe is from my dad and super easy to make. You can prep it all ahead of time too.

Giada Book Signing and Her Yummy Samplings

IMG_9115 [800x600]

In April 2010 I had gotten to meet Giada at her book signing (click HERE for details) and luckily this year I got to meet her again yesterday. I’m just glad I didn’t look at her with big eyes at tell her how pretty she is again! This time I asked her what it is she’s always wanted to learn to make herself. (example: home made cheese or pasta). Her response was Indian food, she’s only made it once or twice, but she would love to master the Indian cuisine.

The only thing I wish she could do is pose for a picture with you an maybe sign additional items (I will see her on the street at some point and get my apron signed!!!). I know she has to keep people moving along, and William Sonoma I thought did a good job at setting up a large enough area right in front of her to take pictures.

Here’s a few things they passed out while we stood in line. I’ve also included recipes in case you want to make them yourself.

Ginger-Tea Lemonade (Click HERE for recipe) OMG this stuff is addicting. I think my mother in law and I had at least 5 cups of this stuff! We both concluded it would taste good hot or cold (they served it chilled). Normally this isn’t something I would have seen the recipe and ran home to make it, but honestly I would make it now!

Arugula Pesto, Ricotta, and Smoked Mozzarella Pizza (Click HERE for recipe)

And of course something sweet! Double Chocolate and Espresso Cookies (Click HERE for recipe) These little jewels where also really yummy. I think I’ll be making them in my Christmas baskets this year.

Right as we where about to leave her sister showed up. Isn’t she a doll? She’s just as pretty in person as Giada is!

Such a fun day and she’s sooooo sweet to talk to in person! Can’t wait for more books to come out.

Meeting Bobby Flay and recent happenings

So what have I been up to lately? Well hmmm let me see...Hubby and I took a quick trip up to Pittsburgh, Niagara Falls and Canada weekend before last, here’s a couple of quick pictures from that trip…

Once we got home I flew out the next day to Iowa to meet with the Iowa Corn Growers Association for a two day tour of the corn industry. (Blog post coming Friday.)

Saturday was all about our baby girl Mocha there was a local pumpkin patch festival at the pet ranch so we took her to get some pictures taken. Poor baby was so hot in her costume we had to take it off so she didn’t look so hot in the pictures.

Sunday we helped volunteer setting up tables for Lucky Dog Rescue’s 7 course Savory & Sweet event at Ralph Smith’s Photography Studio, which is an OMG to die for space. I snapped a few quick pictures so maybe one day I can build a space like this!!

Then yesterday I got to meet Bobby Flay when he came to town for a book signing. I really like the set up where he was on the same side of the table as you. I told him I write a food blog and had a question for him – “I know this sounds dumb, but what’s your favorite course to cook, I know you like grilling, but who knows maybe you have a passion for baking?” His response was – “I think anything with shellfish, it’s my favorite thing to cook.” Then he asked for the name of of blog so I told him and he said he really liked the name then asked if I had a card. I almost fell over and died. I really hope he checks out my blog, but who knows. I hope you enjoy the pictures. I was impressed he was so chatty and full of personality. You never know if these celebrities let the fame get to their head and just there to get a paycheck. I honestly can say I think Bobby really cared about everything everyone said to him and he interacted with everyone. I admire him for that, especially with his crazy tour schedule sometimes doing 2 signings in 1 day.

Oh before I forget they passed out samples of his mac and cheese from the new cookbook Bobby Flay’s Throwdown The Cookbook. I also wanted to send a shout out to Jennifer and Wade whom I probably talked their ear off in line. Jennifer was kind enough to hold the sample of mac and cheese so I could get a quick picture and Wade took my picture with Deborah Duncan host of Great Day Houston. Thanks again guys!!
