Toasting in the new year with tea

I feel like I've been away forever and having blogging withdrawals! I have so many blogs to read and catch up on. So here's what I've been up to lately, I went to Canton with my good friend Laura and we found some really cool stuff. My husband should be happy we don't live close to there because I would be spending my whole paycheck each month. And I'm proud to say I behaved myself in hopes to get invited back. ;) It was nice to have a girls weekend as I was telling my husband I haven't left for a weekend away in the 5 years we've been married. Usually my weekends away from him are when he goes hunting and leaves me home to put up the Christmas decorations. We're not the crazy couples that can't be away from each other because we do have our separate hobbies, but it's very rare we have a whole weekend apart.

I got 2 purses, one for everyday use and one for rodeo season coming up, both were $25 each. I got a long sleeve brown shirt for rodeo for $28 and a pair of beaded design jeans for $10 which were marked down from $50. The brown box behind it was my biggest find see below.

It's a huge wall hanging for a big empty wall I have in my house and I got it for $50! I'm so excited about it!! I've held out for a long time because something this size easily goes for over $150.
Anyway on to the food, while we had our shopping set out we also had a tea party with the kids. I have to admit it was the cutest thing I've ever seen, Karly made us all invitations and had a guest list for us to RSVP. We had a fantastic 7 up cake with our hot tea. This is an old recipe that's been around for ages, but it's tried and true and super moist and fluffy.

7up Cake

2 sticks butter
1/2 cup shortening
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
dash salt
3 cups flour
1 small 7up (7 ounces)
2 teaspoons lemon flavoring

Cream together the first 3 items then slowly add in the reaming items. Bake in a greased and floured tube pan at 350 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes.

A special thank you to Neely and Karly for inviting me to your tea party!
