Candy Corn Wreath

IMG_6344

I’ve been getting more into the spirit of Halloween and love doing crafts so I was excited to find this idea on the cover of Woman’s Day Magazine. I hung it on my front door for 2 days before going outside to check on it to make sure the acrylic was keeping the bugs away to find that the afternoon sun was melting the candy! Such a bummer, but I’ll be making another one this time keeping it indoors. I couldn’t find the black duct tape so I have an extra step in my process where I painted it black.

(Adapted from Woman’s Day Magazine)

1. You’ll need a Styrofoam wreath (ours is 16 in.), black duct tape, a hot-glue gun, a wide ribbon and candy corn (we used Brach’s. I used $1 store candy).

Cover the wreath in tape.

This is where I did my extra step of painting the wreath black.

3. To get a sense of how the corns will fit, lay them around the wreath in single rows, with one row pointing left and the next pointing right, but don’t glue down. (It won’t take long and your final product will be more polished.) I skipped laying them out and went straight to gluing. Remove the corn from the wreath and hot-glue the pieces in the pattern one at a time, starting from the outer edge of the wreath inward, until you’ve covered the entire top and side.

4. Repeat the process in the center, starting at the same point as you did for the top so that you can cover any corn-free space with the ribbon when you’re finished.

5. Wrap ribbon through the wreath at the candy corn seam, tie into a bow and hang on a sturdy nail.

  3. I'm dismayed your candy corn was melting. Where do you live? I'm thinking I might not have that problem up in Massachusetts.

  4. You are lucky to have the cooler weather I'm in Texas so we have a harsh hot sun in the afternoon hitting my front door. My new one now hangs on my pantry door in the kitchen.
