Smoke Bruschetta and a Jack Daniel's Whiskey Barrel Charcoal and Smoker Blocks Giveaway

Just because school started and it seems like summer is over doesn't mean you have to pack away the grill. Most of our favorite dishes are made on the grill and the taste alone stands out when it's made with the right charcoal.

The fine folks over at Packaging Services Company have graciously offered one of Finding Inspiration In Food readers a bag of Jack Daniel's Whiskey Barrel Charcoal and Smoker Blocks (6.8 pounds). To be honest once you've tried this product you won't be buying any other brand ever again!

Whiskey Barrel® Charcoal originates from authentic Jack Daniel’s® oak aging barrels. Barrels are emptied at maturity and a portion of the whiskey remains inside the wood. The charcoal briquet's are made with these barrel pieces. Also included are smoker blocks which are cut directly from whiskey-saturated barrel staves, the blocks capture a pleasant mix of caramel, vanilla and wood notes and will impart an extraordinary smoked flavor to grilled foods. As seasons change, whiskey is drawn in and out of the oak wood barrel.

I've got the perfect recipe for you to try once you get yourself a bag of these Jack Daniel's Whiskey Barrel Charcoal and Smoker Blocks. When you think of grilling it doesn't have to always be meat. I kept it simple and was able to use my flavored olive oils I made. Click HERE for the recipes. I tested this recipe in the oven as well which can be done, but the flavor of the smoker blocks makes a huge difference so I recommend grilling the bread.

Smoked Bruschetta

Printer Friendly Version

1 individual serving Italian or French loaf
1 plum tomato, diced
6 large fresh basil leaves, or to taste, sliced
flavored olive oil to coat tomatoes and drizzle on sliced bread
1 garlic clove
salt to taste

Preheat grill.

Slice the loaf of bread, on the bias, into 3/4 inch slices.

Place bread on plate and drizzle with olive oil.

Lightly grill each side of bread until golden brown. Remove to a platter and rub each slice with the garlic clove.
Toss tomato and basil with enough olive oil to coat and season with salt. Place in a foil pan and let smoke on grill for a few minutes to absorb the flavor.

Top each slice of bread with a spoon full of the tomato mixture and season with salt. Drizzle additional flavored olive oil if desired.

If making in oven:
Preheat oven to broiler setting. Place a rack approximately 6 inches from broiler. Place sliced bread in oven on a sheet pan and broil until golden brown on both sides, approximately 2 minutes on the first side and 1 to 1 1/2 second for the second side. Remove to a platter and continue with directions above starting with garlic. Skip smoking the tomato and basil combo; top broiled bread.

  3. Yum! I think I'd grill some kind of meat, like a steak. Although your bruschetta look great ... I tend to do mine in the oven.

  4. This looks amazing! My hubby has the Jack Daniels cookbook so I bet it would make something in there taste even better than it already does! Chicken would probably taste great using this.
